What is Humina?

Humina promotes diverse and accessible dance and performing arts in the Helsinki metropolitan area. It also facilitates the work of artists of the Humina community.

Humina's activities are anchored in the Humina space, located in Länsi-Pasila, Helsinki. The Humina space is a dance and performing arts work and performance space established in 2023. The activities are backed by Humina ry (association), which was founded in 2022.

Space

Humina Space is home to eight dance artists who use Humina for artistic work, teaching, and performances. Humina also hosts Open Space performance evenings organized by Humina artists and residencies for performing arts professionals. The space is also available for rent to other artists when possible.

Humina is a living art space that brings people together around art: to watch and experience performances, to share thoughts about art, both in terms of experiencing and creating it, to dance, and to practice various dance and performance art-related practices. It is a workspace where artist members do their work.

The artists currently working at Humina are Kaisa Kukkonen, Heli Keskikallio, Elina Hauta-aho, Kati Raatikainen, Mari Koponen, Jonna Lehto, Leena Harjunpää, and Georgie Goater. They have all been actively involved in the field of dance and performing arts for decades.

Association

Humina ry is a multidisciplinary association whose purpose is to enable its members to engage in artistic work and, in particular, to promote the artistic and cultural activities of marginalized artists and all city residents. Humina ry strives to take eco-socially sustainable principles into account and aims to promote inclusion in society. The association seeks to offer accessible, multi-artistic activities that focus on physicality.

Humina ry was founded to create flexible structures for its members' own artistic work and artistic activities in communities. In addition to the Humina space, the association's activities take place in urban forests, parks, and public urban spaces. We are constantly looking for partners and organizations, such as schools, service centers, and other associations.

Humina ry runs an inclusive dance group called Tanssivat Timantit (Dancing Diamonds), which operates in Kokkola. Currently, the board of Humina ry consists of dance artists Mari Koponen, Kati Raatikainen, and Elina Hauta-aho, and the members of the association are Heli Keskikallio, Kaisa Kukkonen, Markku Essel, and Riku Lekman.
