Detachment is a shedding light on the beauty and power inherent in the natural cycles of life that is present in the menstrual cycle. An intimate work-in-progress to explore the passage from childhood to womanhood, and the journey to heal my relationship with my own womanhood.

Giorgia Lolli: Eat me
Teos perustuu pohdintoihin naisruumiin kuvaamisesta kuvataiteessa, kuvien kulutuksesta valtamediassa ja naisten seksualisoinnista. Alun perin italialaisesta ilmaisusta mangiare con gli occhi (kirjaimellisesti: "syödä silmillä", haluta, himoita) lähteneenä projekti kyseenalaistaa ruumiin havainnoinnin tavan ja tutkii katseen dynamiikkaa ja politiikkaa katsojan ja esiintyjän välisen suhteen kautta.

The work stems from reflections on the portrayal of female bodies in visual arts, the consumption of images in mainstream media and the sexualization of women. Starting from a fascination for the Italian expression mangiare con gli occhi (literally: "eating with the eyes", to desire, to crave), the project questions the way the body is observed, investigating the dynamics and politics of the gaze through the relationship between spectator and performer.

Mikä sysäisee merkityksellisyyden syntyä liikkeelle? Mikä herättää tai luo maaston merkityksien syntymiselle? Minkä verran nimenomaan kykymme muistaa on avainasemassa merkityksien luomisessa? Miltä merkityksien pintaan nouseminen (emerging of meaning/significance) ja vuoroin syvyyksiin uppominen (submergance or disappearance of significance) tuntuu/havainnoidaan yleisössä? Milloin ja miten liike ja teksti käyvät vuoropuhelua, milloin valtataistelua? Lähestyn näitä kysymyksiä tekstin saattelemana, liikkeen ja tilassa vallitsevan pimeyden, varjojen ja valo(je)n maastossa. Tämä on work-in-progress demo tulevasta teoksesta.

What triggers the emergence of meaning? What awakens or creates the terrain for the emergence of meaning? To what extent does our ability to remember play a key role in the creation of meaning? How does the emergence of meaning/significance and its subsequent submergence or disappearance feel/appear to the audience? When and how do movement and text engage in dialogue, and when do they engage in a power struggle? I approach these questions accompanied by text, in a landscape of movement and the darkness, shadows, and light(s) that prevail in space. This is a work-in-progress demo of a future work.
